Re: M01 compilation idea "The Chase"

I like this idea and would probably contribute. Another angle which would lend itself to more musical variety: Come up with a more extensive narrative. For example, you might do something like "The Heist" which would then include pieces like "The Stake-out," "The Diversion," "Bribing the Guard," "Pi...

Fade/Volume Control

I've been listening to the Haunted Mansion compillation and have been impressed by the deft use of fade in/fade out effects on some of the tracks. You can, of course, adjust volume levels smoothly and finely on the mixer, though the mixer screen has no record button. So how do you record smooth and ...

Thanks! Hotfile did the trick. Now I'm off to listen to the album.

Re: Compilation idea: The Haunted Mansion

The mastering IS awesome (thanks AudioArtist!) as is the artwork. Kudos to everyone. I ran into a problem when downloading the album. Things hang up when I'm approaching the 50 % mark. I might try again from another computer. I don't want to keep trying in case a failed attempt counts against the 20...

Re: WarpToken - Jungle Ruckus

The highpoint for me occurs from 1:00 to 2:00 when you have that awsome bass line playing a terrific melody. That is a GREAT hook/groove. I also like the other instrument lines that get layered on top of the bass in that section. I'm less interested starting at 2:00 when you get more of those glitch...

Re: WarpToken - Jungle Ruckus

That bass line that begins at 60 secs. IS awesome 8-) , and I also like the melody in the higher register that comes in at 1:30. There are so many nice things going on here, but I'd love to see it settle down a bit more. Of course, the title suggests that you are interested in something that is chao...

Re: Idiot's Study in G Major (WIP)

Thanks for the comments. I'm going to work on a revision which will get rid of (or at least greatly reduce) the delay effect. I think some reorchestration and other sound crafting techniques will make the structure and the musical ideas more clear. At least that is my hope. Hopefully I'll have a rev...

Re: Duerme Ylenia

I went back and listened to both versions. The flute sounds is much better to my ear--both because of the associations of the flute and because of its sonority and timbre in relation to the background. The plucked sound has a more pronounced attack which undermines the delicate, shimmering texture.

Idiot's Study in G Major (WIP)

I've been plugging away at the Idiot's Guides to Music Theory and Music Composition, both by Michael Miller, and I'm also actively lurking on this forum. I'm clearly in over my head, but I'm learning a lot and having fun. This WIP is based on one Exercise in the Music Theory book: "Compose a song in...

Re: Duerme Ylenia

This is such a delicate, rich piece. I'm amazed at what you've accomplished (and at your speed in crafting it). For me, one of the great appeals of the piece is that it seems so perfectly balanced between wanting to move somewhere else (rhthmically, melodically, etc.) and yet it is rooted in its own...

Re: Club Vigil

Love the track, and the vibrato seems right to me: It adds to the spirit and retro spunk of the piece. A couple questions about the vibrato: What patch technique are you using to achieve it? Also, some notes sustain a bit without vibrato and then the vibrato kicks in. At other times, the vibrato is ...

Re: Homework anyone? DS-10 Academy

Sounds like an excellent idea, very intrested in something like this however right now I am desparately trying to finish my first Korg DS-10 album to have the time for side steps like this :( No problem. I'm looking forward to the album. That "Winter Wrap-up" piece is on my regular playlist. 8-) I ...

Homework anyone? DS-10 Academy

I've been working through the "Music Theory" section on the forum and a couple books on basic music theory and composition (the "Idiot Guides" by Michael Miller to be exact). The books give assignments after every chapter, and I'm now working on this one: "Compose a 32-measure song in ABCA form: ver...

Re: KORG Monotribe (analog ribbon station)

When you input and output audio using the Monotribe and the Monotron, do they handle stereo (L/R) signals, or is everything strictly monophonic?

Re: After Sunset Before Darkness (my first Original M01 song)

Hard to believe that this is your first original composition on the M01: It sounds so smooth and polished, and those solo lines are terrific. I love the bass groove flourishes as well (I sometimes wished the volume of those was sometimes a bit higher). Also the bridges and breakdowns are nice. Very ...

Re: Cut-up composition technique

I've done some quick research on the monome, which looks like quite a nice piece of equipment. And that bliptronic conversion kit might be in my future. Unfortunately, I'm not well versed in the technical/computer side of things. So, for now, I'm going to order the M01 and work with that and the DS-...

Re: Cut-up composition technique

It sounds like you need/want a monome. I didn't know what this was so I looked it up, and it seems like it would be a helpful device. But then I came across this description: "If you're not familiar with Monome, the company designs and builds unique, minimalist controllers in limited editions for t...

Cut-up composition technique

Here's the idea for an experimental project which I'm interested in exploring. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. I'll post the results to the "DS-10 Tracks" topic as I make progress. The project takes its inspriation from William S. Burrough's cut-up approach to literature along with mi...

Re: Filtering the click glitch

The audacity solution was one that my student mentioned. I haven't tried it yet, but I will. I'm wondering if the high pass has any unintended effects on other aspects of a recording. That is, does it filter any non-click sounds that are actual parts of the recording as opposed to the click artifact...
