Korg Ms-20 Reissue

Post by roblabs » Wed Jan 23, 2013 3:33 pm

If any of you are following NAMM 2013, there's plenty of rumors floating around that Korg is re-releasing the Korg MS-20. Here's the chance for all of us DS-10 heads to get our hands on a real deal version.

There was a link to a german site, but its now down - had some good close up pics of all the knobs.

Sadly, no sequencer built in, but if the unit has MIDI in, you can just connect a hardware/software sequencer, and then a Kaoss Pad, and you have a full fledged analog sketchpad!

I had a look at the German site before it went down and it looks to have MIDI. It is also only 15% smaller where the Legacy controller is %20 smaller. There were rumours that Korg was re-purposing Legacy Controller cases but not so!

I will want one of these especially if they keep the cost low and it looks like they will. The iMS-20 sequencer will make a nice pair with the synth. Actually my Legacy MS-20 controller works great with the iMS-20; It even matches my physical patching on screen. Very cool.

Like I said, if they do release this I'll certainly get one but I can hear my girlfriend now: "don't you already have one of those?"

Its now up on Korg's US site: http://korg.com/MS20mini

I want one, too, but I just bought a minibrute last month. My girlfriend will also say the same thing, and likely complain that I sink too much money into audio gear. Oh well. If anything, perhaps I'll pick one up much later in the year. The only thing I'm disappointed in is that its 86% of the original size. The very nice thing about the miniBrute is that it has full sized keys, and from the images of the ms20 i've seen, the keys look a little small.

Yeah I know what you're saying about the keys; I like full sized keys as well but %86 is pretty close (a lot better than my MS-20 controller which I've gotten pretty used to) and it will be a stretch fitting this into my workspace let alone a full sized MS-20.
