M01 Challenge - Creating a Song using only Drumkits!

Hi all.

I would like to introduce a fun challenge started by the
M01 users in Japan - trying to create a song using
only M01 Drumkits sounds.

= Rules =
- use M01 Drumkits only (SE kits/Cartoon kit/GtrElements are allowed)
- you may NOT use any other sounds including mallet instruments
- you may use all 8 tracks.
- anyone can participate!
- once you finish your song, post a link to the video or audio file
on twitter with the tag #m01jp

= Hints =
Although M01 does not provide the flexibility or ease to create your
own original sounds as in DS-10, there are several ways to
"change" or distort the presets to achieve unique sounds.

ex)
1) Using the FX.
- Set the delay time to a very short interval (0-2), set SYNC=Off
then the Kick will sound like a bass.
You can use this method to set the tone of the Kick to a specific note.
- Turn SYNC ON/OFF repeatedly to create glitch sounds.
- Set the Attack = 5-6, Release = 0 and then use the Delay FX
and the presets will sound differently
- Set the delay time to a short interval to achieve a flanger-like effect.

2) Changing the preset sound's T(Pitch)
BlockL & BlockH (Minimal Kit) are very useful for this approach

3) Using the pan settings to toss the Tronica kit's beep sounds
to the left & right - this may effect the other sounds that are
being played.

At this point, more than 20 people have decided to tackle this challenge.
If you listen to the results (which I will list up following this post)
you will realize that even though M01 does not allow you to
"create sounds from scratch", it gives you lots of flexibility to express your uniqueness.

After all, the following songs have been created using Drumkits only,
and there are actually many many more sounds which you can choose (and play with =D).

[ FYI ] - this was the "Trigger" song
Below is the song created by v.Hillenbrandt.7743 which became
the trigger for others to join this challenge.
Although this song is *NOT* created by Drumkits only,
the "bass" sound in the beginning is actually a preset Kick
which was changed by using the delay effects.

You can tell this was made by BeyeR. But what I don't understand is

It's amazing how all his songs have a distinct BeyeR-sound,

I wanted to try messing around with the release of drum sounds. (@monotw)

I had an empty track so I sort of forced myself to use it for the ending (@monotw)

It starts out kind of slow then gradually build up sounding like
an industrial factory or something. Many of daiteng's songs

I seem to have a habit of trying seven-part time
I used short delay on Tom2L of 01/W 118:TomKit to get
an orchestra-hit type sound. I also changed the pitch +1/-1
of the two drum sets that are each set to the Left and Right
to get a stereo-type effect (@TuKuRu)

Love the Yakan DS track and the two ng logo tracks are great, it's great how industrial these guys make the m01 sound. Obviously the v.Hillenbrandt.7743 tracks are freakin awesome too. LOVE the break up on Asura Drummer, wish the whole track was that trippy. Love the spacing in Monotw's track. How funky is Popbeater by yuyu_mcrs!? Click Tech is really well put together also.

It took me nearly 8 weeks to finish this due to my short-span
concentration, but I am pretty happy with what I got.
The only thing that bothers me is that it sounds very
different depending on the speakers/headphones you use.

I had been waiting for your song! I see that you chose to
change the pitch of the sounds. Very very detailed work.
I especially like the break-beats-like part towards the end.

I like the vibrating sounds. The way the modified-pitch sounds
work well with the plain drum tones is interesting.
Also, I noticed how the detailed the rhythms were not

Maybe you (or anyone) can help me with some other issue I've found also with the drum only thread: I can't find the way to play the nicovideo.jp videos....Am I supposed to be registered first?, and how? (google translator shows error if i try to translate the registering page).

niconico video is very popular among the DS-10/M01 users in Japan.
The problem is, you need to have an account to play the videos.
However, I think there are sites that mirror the videos
so that people who cannot access nicovideo can play them.

If you can give me some time, I can try to figure out those
links so that you can playback the nicovideos.
(But I am currently a bit busy, so please give me some time )

Another problem about listening to some of the tunes in this challenge
is that twaudio has been shut down and we cannot playback
those tunes that were posted to twaudio


Anyway, I will try to see if there are any mirror sites for
the nicovideos (I am pretty sure that there are a few)
so please give me some time.
