My first track. (16bit techno / tech house style)

Post by mammoth » Sun Mar 17, 2013 9:00 am

Hi

Here's my first finished track. I wanted it to sound a bit like a 16bit console era game, but with a modern techno-ish sound. Although I'm not entirely happy with the intro and arrangement I think the main sections (starting around 1 min) sound pretty good.

Any feedback, criticisms, tips and advice gladly received. :D

Oh, when I listen to other people's creations I'm always interested to know if it was multitracked into a DAW first and processed in any way. So for this one, it was recorded live straight out of my DSi and other than boosting overall volume a bit I haven't done anything to it.

Congratulations on a first track really well done.
It really has an '80's "Jan Hammer" vibe that works. I like the melody and the 5ths harmony. When it "kicks in" at the 1 min mark things do start to happen in a very cool way. Very interesting combo of sounds. That bass sound is very cool.
I also really like the depth of field the track has. Everything is in its place in the stereo and spacial fields, from the close hard panned electro-percussion elements to the centered soft melody sound and its farther away answer.

Love it.

Thanks both very much :D
Syscrusher, I know what you mean re Jan Hammer... wasn't really my intention with the track but I like the comparison! Thanks for the constructive feedback man!

Why did you take the track down? All the positive comments make me want to hear it! Poor me. Too late. :(
