A Scale is a group of notes made up of musical intervals called Tones (t) and Semitones (s)
A Tone is made up of 2 Semitones
For the purpose of this First study, we shall use the scale called 'C Major'
There are 7 different notes in the scale of C Major
C D E F G A B
You then add another C at the top to create the complete scale
C D E F G A B C.
This last C is an Octave above the first C (Octave -Octopus - 8th note)
Each note has a gap or interval between them - either a Tone or a Semitone
C t D t E s F t G t A t B s C
If you rearrange these notes - and play them in a different order you create a melody.
You can try this by playing all the White notes on a Piano keyboard or play something on the Kaoss pad on the DS set to C Major Ionian.
If you played a tune in the Key of C Major - you would use these notes
Each note can be called something else - (as long as you stay in the Key of C Major) for example:
C D E F G A B C
1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th
Doh Re Mi Fa So La Tee Doh
If you were playing in the key of C with another musician and they asked you to play the 3rd above 'C' - then you would be required to play the Note 'E'
C Major is a jolly , happy Scale used in many pop songs. There are no sharps or Flats. Great for using the Piano Keyboard.
