Akai SynthStation, the first real DS-10 competitor?!
Seems like a tool for composition and performance, like DS-10.
And the iPod touch is actually cheaper than a Nintendo DS now...

I'm definetly going to buy it one of these days, since I'm an iPhone user.
Has anyone been messing around with this thing yet? Might be a killer combination together with DS-10!

I have been woefully unimpressed with many iPhone music-making apps so far. Most of them just seem like simple toys or blatant shovelware. This looks like a step above the stuff I've seen so far and I'll probably get it though I'm not expecting much.

For me the thing about the DS-10 is the patching. Patching is woefully under-represented in so many digital or virtual analog applications - even in fancy DAWs like Logic and Pro Tools. If the iphone had a modular synth app that would interest me. Otherwise straight sequencers and wave form generators are a dime a dozen. I don't have an iphone or ipad but may get one soon and if I do this may be of interest to me but I have other options to do this kind of thing that are probably a lot more flexible than an iphone app. Unless there is a patchbay there is no competing with the DS-10.

Ok...that's pretty cool. I actually think the ipad has lots of potential as an alternate musical interface. I wonder if the midi sync device for the iphone works with the ipad?

The guy who did that Youtube review of the synthstation sounds like he wants to take you somewhere quiet, somewhere that your screams won't be heard.

I have an iPad and think that NanoStudio on the iPad shreds the Akai. However, editing sounds and sequences can sometimes be tricky with NanoStudio's interface. There is a lot packed into the NanoStudio application!

Akai has also released a two octave keyboard for this app:
Sort of a remake of this one by Novation for the Yamaha QY10 sequencer:

I don't know if you are referring at this one:Syscrusher wrote: I wonder if the midi sync device for the iphone works with the ipad?

But even if the iPad is not officially supported, seems to work perfectly:
Looks like just a few apps support it at the moment. There seems to be another way to run MIDI out of the iPad, but you need a computer. Pianist Pro supports both:
I think is just a matter of time keyboards and other instruments had wireless capabilities and came with dedicated apps for iPad or similar devices.
