Yeah, it kind of gets in your head and makes you feel uncomfortable. It makes me think of being eaten by some monstrous evil sewing machine.

Here's a preview of my work of the "Machine Room".
It's just a short WIP and I really need to work more in the patches, so this is why I didn't post on the Soundcloud group. I will have a better WIP today, so here it is:

For the track, I'm using DS-10 + with various overdubs, to full the track with some creepy layers. But yesterday, I had a lucid dream and this "dream" have influenced me to continue with this track, so...

I like your Machine Room atmosphere. That furnace clanking in the background is really effective.

Question though...did DS Dominator say at one point that this was going to be a "no overdubs" comp?
Has this been revoked? I'm cool either way but overdubs allowed is a bit of a game changer.

Overdubs are allowed, if you really feel it to be necessary. For instance my Living Room track is actually two differrent sessions overdubbed, because I only have the regular DS cart. I've been toying with the idea of just adding one "impossible" overdub just to add a grandfather clock chiming midnight though.
@The Industrialism- Machine room sounds awesome! If you are going to add more or tweak on it, it's only going to get better. Excellent work!

Hi, sounds like a great idea for a comp!

Can i take the secret control room? I'm thinking lots of nice s&h fx and theremkn style lead :)

I'm going to start now and should make the wip deadline ... When is the finished deadline?

Mwah ha ha!
If in doubt, feed the VCO2 into something ..

Here is a short preview sketch of my "Ballroom" song. I'm going to tweak the sounds a little and probably add some pizzicato strings and perhaps some light percussion. I'll probably add another section as well - I still have five patterns left to play with. Be sure to listen to this with headphones or on good speakers or the bass will disappear. My Macbook has pretty good speakers and the bass is practically non-existent when I play this.

I like the ballroom sampler. It has a clear idea behind it and that idea is being executed brilliantly. The sounds, the lilting waltz rhythm, the slightly skewed harmonics, and the lilting melody are terrific. It is putting me in the mental frame of a creepy horror film from the silver screen.

So you used the DS10 to make sounds and overdubbed them into the track? Or did your overdubs come from somewhere else?

I side on the purist end of things. With AudioArtist's track, he just put two single deck audio-tracks on top of eachother, which I think is okay.

I've used DS10 to make the sounds. The principal rhythm was made with just one take, so I'm putting various layers, made with overdubs (recorded live too), just with DS10. The real idea for my track was make a full creep track, so I need to use overdubs, because with just one take it's really difficult for me making the track.

@Syscrusher: I like your ballroom music, it sounds good but I found that the melody sounds like the beginning of "Someday my prince will come" which is also in 3/4... Anyway great "theremin" patch :)

Ha! "Someday My Prince Will Come" eh? Well the overall rhythm of the melody is somewhat the same I'll concede (half note followed by quarter note) but that is a very common 3/4 rhythm. The intervals of the melody are quite different however. My melody starts on a major 7th leap (3rd beat to 1st) and proceeds downward chromatically whereas "Someday" starts on a perfect fourth leap (1st beat to 1st beat) and descends diatonically downward for two notes before rising again. My melody continues downward. Both melodys do start on the 5th however. I don't mean to sound defensive... ;) but I think the similarities are rather superficial. Although I can't entirely discount your first impression, I humbly suggest it is largely due to the confines of waltz time.

Glad you like the theremin patch! I spent some time on that to get it "just right".

Sorry I think I didn't translate correctly my mind: I wasn't saying that you copied a melody, it was a just "feeling", no offense your music is great :)

I like this track alot. You've got the bubbling liquids, creepy drill sounds, Theremin sounds and good format. Sounds great!
