All about KORG DS-10 and KORG DS-10 PLUS. What is it? Where to buy it? What are these different version?

I submitted this entry, if that's okay. I did the courtyard, 'cuz the first post said that nobody had done that yet! I tried to incorporate wind-noises, bird-noises and a wooden-sounding snare. It's still a little weird for a courtyard, but I think it works well!

What do ya think?

The intro is funny, although I think you can definitely make better bird sounds. Just listen to bird sounds for a minute.

I like the parts after that, although I think they're more happy than creepy. But that fits with the courtyard, it could be a kind of rest-point in the story.

The third part, when the bass comes in, is really catchy and harmonic.

I was kind of hoping for a sudden half-time part to come after that, I think you can bring great contrast by starting "happy" like this and then suddenly going slower and lower and creepier.

I think the last two parts are too full, especially with eery music you can strip down a lot of elements, and in stead of that use dynamics etc. The lower played melody is really cool. Why use all the beat-stuff when you have the chance to do something different now?

edit: actually while listening again I think the end parts are quite cool as well... just see my criticism as idea, you (of course) don't have to do anything with em

You're on the right track, especially cool melodies, hope my criticism is appreciated.

There is some really cool stuff in this track UncleBibby! My only complaint, is with the section that starts around 1:00, I really like how the bass becomes very thick and heavy here, however, after listening through several times, I think the bass does need to be a bit quiter on this part. Also, I think your kick needs to be louder, or try to get more some more low end thump into it. The section starting around 2:15 - the last section, is my personal favorite. In the spirit of friendly advice I'd like to hear you develop this section some more. You've got some cool vibes going on in this track!

I made the bird noises more realistic, I made the kick a little stronger, I lowered the volume of the bass in that one part, and I slowed down that other part a little. What do ya think, guys?

That mix sounds better UncleBibby. The kick doesn't get near as lost in the bass now. And overall, all the sounds seem more balanced out. I like this track more each time I listen to it!

The track sounds great, if you do another version though it'd be cool if you made the intro longer or reprised it later on.

If all the tracks are up to the same standard as the two posted so far, the comp is gonna be awesome.

Sounds too "pop" to me. Not even haunting in my opinion.

Thanks! I'm glad you like it, but I'd sort of have to reorganize the entire song if I wanted to lengthen the intro and/or repeat it later in the song (I don't think I have enough room in the pattern sequencer anyway). I could probably figure out a way to do it, but I sort of like it how it is now, if that's okay with you. I appreciate the suggestion though!

Well, I do see what you're saying, but DS-Dominator, Tommy Creep and AudioArtist all say they like it. I'm not very good at slow atmospheric songs; making them is sort of weird for me because I don't really know how they're supposed to work, and I don't enjoy making them.

Still, I think my song is pretty dark, and as far as Korg DS-10 Plus songs go, I think it represents a Courtyard pretty decently. Maybe you disagree, I dunno.

If you want, I could retract my submission so it won't be on the compilation, but I don't think anyone hearing my song on the compilation would think, "Wow, this song ruins the whole thing for me!" I think the worst case scenario would be, "Wow, this song seems a little out of place!"

Sorry if this comes off as a little jerkish or defensive. You might be right about my song; maybe it doesn't fit on this compilation at all. I guess I did ask "whaddya think", so I should have expected at least one person to briefly say they don't think it fits!

I like this tune. There is a playful wacky side to haunted houses as well and this tune touches on that. I see mad scientists and Tesla Coils...

I would fully encourage everyone to step away from pure 'dance music' and try something different. So many genres to choose from...

but for the workout room techno might be appropriate indeed :D
