Re: DS10Forum.com Compilation #2 - A Journey Through Space
Looks like there will be an update to the comp soon because of a late coming track.
The track for Mars i have just been sent is actually amazing so it deserves to be on so i will update it after work, although no more late additions after this sorry.

Re: DS10Forum.com Compilation #2 - A Journey Through Space
Nice compilation, indeed.
But there is one thing that really bothers me: Some tracks are compressed to death, especially the tracks "Our Moon", "Stellar", "Proxima Centauri Hijinx Ratatat", "Twilight Zone" and "The Stars" have an unbelievable dynamic range of 3dB and less! There's a lot of awful distortion in there.
Don't get me wrong, the music itself is really great, but the audio quality is f++ked up!
Please, for the sake of listening pleasure, have a look at the following webpages:

Here's a tool to calculate the dynamic range of your music (Windows only, but also works with "wine"):

Agreed with monotone, the loudness war must stop ! But I think that the korg ds-10 himself tend to compress the signal, I never was able to saturate even if the volume is very high...

Re: DS10Forum.com Compilation #2 - A Journey Through Space
It's funny that you bring up this discussion cause I'm very much against the loudness war as well. I never use 'maximizers', and maybe just a tiny bit of compressing or limiting on my master in my Ableton Live music projects. But in DS-10 there is constantly 'saturating' (analog modelled compressing/limiting) going on when your instrument peaks. I don't feel like in The Stars this is a problem though, it's supposed to sound like that. Though it's important to understand that you get a clearer mix out of DS-10 by putting down all the volume sliders.

Maybe next time we should agree on a certain volume level (RMS). Tracks that exceed this value should be lowered in volume to have a balanced volume level on the whole compilation. Just my 2 ct.

Re: DS10Forum.com Compilation #2 - A Journey Through Space
Maybe you're right and my track could have been a bit softer. But I mean it's not like music HAS to be unsaturated... Giving every instrument its own place in the mix is most important. I do agree my track is a little too loud on this comp, the volumes are not 100% balanced. But I can't blame Harley for that, I know that it took me a week of tweaking to get that right on the last comp. Now I'm wondering why I didn't look for some automatic tool do to this? Or it would be good to upload one tracks as a volume reference next time. Let's see how we can arrange this better for comp 3.motone wrote:Mmmmkay...DS-10 Dominator wrote: I don't feel like in The Stars this is a problem though, it's supposed to sound like that.

Most important is that we have nice tracks again
