Meant to reply to this earlier. The adaptor itself works on the save data on the cartridge, so it's not specific to DS or DSi or even to the cartridge per se. (The "adaptor plus" adds a feature that enables the firmware to be updated; some cartridges with larger than usual save files were not supported on the previous adaptor, it seems.) However, since the DS-10 Plus adds some additional features, the save files between the two different carts themselves are not compatible.
I haven't tried it with any save files yet, but I've done it with my own meagre data--you can transfer sessions wirelessly between DS-10 and DS-10 Plus cartridges, in either direction, using the Data Exchange feature. (Remember, a 'dual' session is really just two sessions, one loaded to bank A and the other to bank B.) Transferring from Plus to the DS-10 original, I expect that would just lose the additional features, like per-track mute settings in a song--a feature that is not available in DS-10. Of course, you'll need both cartridges and two DS(i) systems.
Now, if every session is used, there's no good way to get your presets from one cart to the other. With an empty session, I just create a session from INIT and then load my presets one by one onto Synth 1 / 2 in each pattern until I have them all. As it turns out, the preset names are saved with the session data that way, whether you have presets by that name or not on the receiving cart.
