[Multiplatform] Korg DS-10 Manager 2

Post by QauNuckShin » Wed Dec 28, 2011 10:24 am

Merry jesusmas! :D

Oh man, I have an awesome jesusmas surprise for you guys!

I have a gig on January 6th, but when it was time to make the setlist I felt it was way too cumbersome to use my old DS-10 Manager to compile new save files. It used to work fine when I had few tracks (i.e. <= 18), but now it's just too much work. I decided to write a new manager.

I've been celebrating christmas with my dad and little brother. They both sleep pretty late, while I get up at about 7 AM pretty much every morning. I've been spending that extra time programming an (almost) all-new version of the DS-10 Manager. It's much more user-friendly.

Starting new thread for it here, since it's practically a whole new application - none of the questions in the old thread are relevant anymore. :)

This new version searches a folder (and all its subfolders) for savefiles, tracks and patches, and builds a library from this. It looks at modification times in order to create a version history for all tracks.

It's pretty neat, if I may say so myself.

So, I guess it's time to visit the site and download it: http://dolkow.se/ds10m/
There's some more info/help on the site, too.

And here's a screenshot of it running under Linux (Gnome Shell, Ubuntu 11.10):

I'd be very interested to hear how it's working for people. Any problems? Is the interface convenient/easy to use? Suggestions for improvements?

Yay!

I've actually recorded a video of myself creating the save file for my gig tonight. I guess you could call it a semi-walkthrough...

Is there any way to get this software to work with DS-10 Plus? I tried but I got this message: "Loaded file doesn't appear to be a ds-10 save file". Is it because DS-10 Standard and DS-10 Plus use a different size save file?

Hi there :)

First post!

Picked up my DS for the first time in ages, and amazing to see how things have moved on with DS-10 tools.

So, I've got my .sav file, but the log is telling me "header mismatch - not a Korg DS-10 save file" :(

The save file came via a fire card, save format is flash 2mbit. The ds-10 loads/saves fine on the NDS btw.

Am I missing something obvious? Perhaps I need to convert the .sav to another format, or perhaps the filename is a problem.

ps. NDS is USG-001 UK/EUR, regular DS-10 not Plus.

Cheers,
LW.

My best guess would be that your "fire card" -- which I assume is a save file extractor -- adds some extra headers at the start of the file. That could trip up the tool, if I remember correctly. Another possibility is that the extractor has compressed the save data.

If you send me a save file with this problem, I might be able to make some time to look into it. No promises, though.

If anyone else wants to try to fix it:
1. Compare a working and a non-working save file, especially the start of the files. Hex is probably the most convenient way to look at them.
2. Check the tool code for locating the header -- I honestly can't remember if it tries to locate it dynamically. IIRC, the code is included in the downloaded .jar file.

Am I correct in thinking this file manager doesn't work on dual mode ds10+ files?

I haven't tested it at all with ds10+, so I don't really know... but reading some of the comments above, it seems it doesn't work at all with ds10+.

Hi,

Thanks for responding - thinking about it I'll settle back into learning DS-10 and worry about getting some tracks done, and get back to .sav backups later. I'll keep an eye open for another card reader however, you never know what'll pop up on eBay.

Cheers,
LW.

Okay. Please keep in mind that my previous response was a guess -- I can't say for sure that your card reader is the issue, nor that it is unsolveable.
