Help Request - 8bit triangle

Post by xGx » Sun Mar 06, 2011 6:47 am

Ok I have tried almost everything I can think of now and this seems impossible, I had one that sounded good but it was FAR too quiet to be used... Any tips from some of the masters would be great :) ...if such things are possible anyways.

Here is a link to the sound I am refering to.

In this track, it is the bass.

Hmmm, i just tried a way i thought would work but it didn't sound convincing enough. The character of that triangle tone comes a lot from the ammount of aliasing in the waveform from the old 8 bit hardware. In ds10 I tried creating a high pitched triangle for the drum sequencer and then pitching it down in the sequencer but it didn't really sound right, not enough aliasing. That's probably the closest i can get to it.

Can't think of anything else to try to get that sound. :(

Thanks for giving it a shot, I hadn't actually tried that particular approach. :)

...I realised that you can use osc2 in the drum synth instead of osc1, then pitch it up an octave with its detune knob. Then pitch down the drum sequencer another octave for slightly more aliasing. Its still not a NES like triangle wave but its getting a little closer. You can't push it any further than that because you're programming notes way down at C0 already.

I know this is digging up a dead thread but I have news! I have TRIUMPHED! I have created a triangle bass almost perfectly and it sounds WICKED :D I should be using it in my next song that I upload here as I'll definately be using it.

This comes at a good time because I had almost completely given up on DS-10 and was debating switching to LSDJ all together... yet there is still hope!

The song I was going to upload has now been reserved for my first offical EP, give me a few more weeks and I'll have something uploaded ^-^

I may upload a small demo if I have the time in a few days for you though :)

Ok sorry to keep you waiting, attached is a TINY part of one of my new songs from my upcoming album Im working very hard on. This so far is the only track I have used the Triangle bass patch in but I think it sounds pretty good.

Check it out.

To create it I THINK i loaded init and then put it down an octave. Set both instruments to /\/ but on the balance about 90% to instrument 2. VCO 2 pitch to about 2pm on the face of a clock with Cync activated. EG int under the VCF knobs (the one on the right not on the left) set about 98% down then you play with the sustain till you get this sound, the sustain should be about 10-11pm on a clock face.

To boost loudness goto Drum edit patch and attach EG to VCA IN and wack it to max.
