Pirates of the Korg-DS 10 PLUS

Post by drexegar » Fri Jan 18, 2013 1:19 pm

Pirate Pete: Arghh... Me dual mode wont work on me DSI!

Note: This track was made on a legit copy of KORG DS-10 PLUS.

My second track, I want to make some 8-bit RPG music, ended up with a pirate theme. Enjoy!

DETAILS:

SINGLE MODE in 3/4 (12 notes each pattern, main trick for an easy orchestrated nes music flow)
16 PATTERNS USED
DELAY ADDED on SYNTH 1 and 2: not much just a little bit

PATCHES USE:
SYNTHS

Pulse on 2 channels, 12.5% and 25% (a VCO2 ONLY square patch where the duty is control by the VCO 2 Pitch in plugging into the VCO2 outlet in the bottom right) This allows me to change the duty from 12.5 to 50% at anytime during playback by using the kaoss pad and not be limited to changing sound on patterns.

Brass

DRUMS

Triangle wave - its sounds very close to nes on regular octave (use in more nes games) and up but so far it seems impossible to get the gritty sound of a very low octave nes triangle wave (ex. tim follin's solstice, silver surfer soundtracks) so I have low octave playing in this track.

Timpani drum
Crash Symbol
Brass

Oooohhhh I really like this. I love your drums! The tune starts to sound a tad distorted at the end, and the drums could have a tad bit more punch, but I'm loving this vibe!

Thanks a lot! and yes I dont know, but it seem when volume or vibrato clashes, its get muffled, I fought with the volume as much as I can, but I think I need a different headphones and will start composing music through my speaker.

I can't believe you managed to achieve this sound on the DS10, it really does sound like the stock sounds in most NES songs. I'd love to get a peek at those patches :)

I spent all night yesterday with my web cam and laptop to make a video of a great way of setting up the korg for nintendo sounds:

Thanks a lot! Yeah seems a lot of gameboy games use a 12.5% duty with a little vibrato. Its was used a lot on nes games, but people seem more familiar with it on gameboy.
