[Windows] Korg DS-10 Save Tool

About sound design and composing with DS-10 (PLUS). How do I make this sound? How do I get this groove? How can I automate this? What can I do live?

[Windows] Korg DS-10 Save Tool

Hi Folks,

This will only be of interest to those of you who have a PC and a way of getting your DS10 save files to/from your carts.

This evening I have quickly knocked-up a tool that allows you to both import and export songs from the 18 available slots in the save file and also import and export your 24 saved synth patches. This will allow the community to share songs and patches more easily.

There is one minor issue with song sharing tho...due to the changes between DS10 and DS10 plus, songs created in plus cannot be loaded in DS10. However songs created in DS10 may be loaded in DS10 plus. This incompatibility does not affect intstruments.

The program itself is pretty self-explanitory...and there is no documentation yet ;)

Enjoy! (and note i'm not responsible for any data loss/damage that may occur from using this app ;))

That sounds interesting, so i guess it allows you to carve up your imported save files?

I tried downloading it but sharebee wants me to complete a survey before i continue and i hate giving away personal info. Any chance you could upload somewhere else?
Cheers :D

You genius!

I can see all my song and patch files after loading my .sav into it from my NDS adaptor plus which means i'll be able to move things around as i need them which is fantastic. I haven't got the equipment with me to give it a thorough go but its looking good!

If the mods are reading this, i think this needs to be a sticky! :D

DAMMMN :-| Does this work over WIFI?

I'm an OS X user too, but I have an old windows laptop lying around. I'll check it out later.
(This might work with Crossover too, the very fast virtual windows 2000 box...)

No wifi I'm afraid. The program just takes the relevant parts (songs and instruments) from the save file and exports them to single files. It then allows you to import these songs/instruments.

No reason why this shouldn't work on a windows emulator on OSX. Its a simple program and should work on any windows version going back to win95 (maybe even windows 3)

So you still need a DS-10 ROM for this right?

You need something capable of transferring your save file to/from your cart like the NDS Adapter mentioned here : viewtopic.php?f=6&t=118

Wow, I've been on the hunt for something like this and it really does exist! I first thought that we could only manually record songs from the DS-10 through it's 3.5mm jack  Thanks for sharing this, I'll try to load it up to my laptop later :)

Would you be willing to post some source code and/or some explanation of how the save file is structured?

I'm very interested in porting this to (or writing my own version in) Java, in order to get it working on Linux and Mac, but I don't know where I'd start in order to figure out the file structure. And I'm too lazy. :D

Wow, you're gonna be able to export to midi ... that's a very big deal.

How on earth did you figure out how to convert the sav files? They are not binaries? Kudos to you, my friend.

Any updates on exporting to midi?

I am very interested in this capability and would look into it if it's not in the works (all i'd care about are the note pitches, duration, velocity).

I don't have the nds save tool so I have no idea what a .sav file looks like. I assume it's binary but then how do you open and read it on the pc or else to figure out the file format and do whatever?

From what I understand, it's a RAW save file. So how do you get the structure of the thing and extract the info properly? I am really puzzled by how you guys did it  and would appreciate any pointers :)

Was hoping the exported songs would be in ascii format but they are not.
