well,

according to DETUNE's website, the successor is going to be called the KORG M01. Apparently it's going to emulate the Korg M1 Synthesizer.

Here's what the M1 sounds like:

if it's going to be a faithful recreation of the M1, then say hello to some awesome swirly pads.

Korg M01

Post by M01 » Mon Aug 30, 2010 8:38 am

Well it's official, release this year.

http://www.korg.co.jp/News/2010/0830/
http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B0040EIQM6

It is based on the M1.

http://www.korg.co.jp/SoundMakeup/Museum/M1/

I cannot decipher if this Amazon Japan exclusive edition is the only version, or if a regular edition follows. If not this is not so good news since Amazon Japan doesn't ship outside of Japan and importers charge a premium for Amazon Japan exclusive items.

I already contacted Amazon Japan about this, and was told there is a faint possibility management reconsiders their shipping policy based on customer feedback. So it might help if many potential customers contact them about it. No Japanese required at the following link, and they reply in English too.

http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/help/contact ... tomer.html

Might help to reference the specific item too.

Confirmed as Amazon Japan exclusive. This was probably the only chance for the developer to have the title "published". Makes a release outside of Japan quite unlikely, now that AQi is no longer involved.

I think there's still a possibility of them getting picked up for international distribution, or at least in the US. Considering the release date is scheduled for Dec. 31, I can wait...

It's compatible with Nintendo DS (the old one), so at least something should work on all regions :).

Simonger Mobile playing the M01 now, chords on the Kaosspad sounds so good! How does that work, which chords does it play?

Interesting. One can usually pick up an actual M1 for under $200. They are a classic popular synth but don't quite have that vintage synth cache yet.
I got an M1 plug-in free with my Mini Korg usb keyboard ( which only cost $50). The presets are actually pretty abysmal so hopefully the DS version rectifies this.
This is a cool development.

The sampled sounds: great.
Note drag and dropping: great.

I have used an actual M1 in the past and have created entire songs within it. If the Korg M01 is a complete emulation then hopefully it will include the M1's internal song sequencer (8 parts plus drums if memory serves). If I recall, the sequencer was completely linear - arranged by measures which you could copy/paste.
