trnsprnt requested a tutorial on this patch from "Primum Mobile" and I'm happy to oblige.
It's really very simple actually. The first thing to note however is that for some reason it will only work on synth 1 (that's the top synth in either A or B deck). I only used VCO 1 for this sound but of course experiment!
Some of the parameters are more important than others and some tweaking can determine how heavy the "surf" is or change the waves into wind. The heart of the sound is the cutoff freq being modulated by the triangle wave. As you can see on the patch page I have set the freq quite slow but again experiment and you will hear the possible variations.
- oops, I just noticed I forgot to fill in the MG completely - the BPM should be set to OFF.
I have the sustain set to max and the attack set to taste.
The VCF is where the intensity of the sound lies. Subtle adjustment here can shape the sound of the wave. You can almost hear how far up the beach the water is reaching and bubbling on the sand by adjusting the cutoff. Some additional tweaking gets some nice wind effects of varying intensity. For instance: set the cutoff at 12:30 the peak at 2:00 and the eg int at 10:00 and the waves turn into wind.
Adjusting the drive setting in the VCA also can add some intensity.
Hope this helps!
