Re: Influences
My major influence has to be Shinichi Osawa, no doubt about it. He's a Jazz artist turned electro musician.

Re: Influences
Nice thread!
Here's this light hearted thing I heard on local radio station FBi today. Love the bassline. And all the synth work totally reminds me of DS-10. Apparently a local Sydney band.

Re: Influences
^Not bad! But I may have shouted at the computer that they shouldn't take their synths into the pool... Until it turned out it was a Casio...

Re: Influences
I realise my last post was more a song I'd just heard than stuff that's motivated me long term... here's a more appropriate post. Let's get atmospheric! Syscrusher should like some of these...
The album Polar - Still Moving from 2001 is amazing, atmospheric Drum and Bass:
Similar atmospheric vein... Omni Trio - Even Angels Cast Shadows.
The track Blue Orb from We <3 Katamari. Glitchy, epic atmospheric:
Loscil - Steam... beautiful, sad, atmospheric ambient
DJ Shadow - Blood on the Motorway... atmospheric hip hop!
Boards of Canada, of course. Kid For Today... beautiful, slightly creepy atmospheric.

Re: Influences
Thanks for posting these AnOwl. I have been meaning to check out Omni Trio but hadn't gotten around to it 'till now. Cool stuff. Boards of Canada and DJ Shadow - classic of course. I always enjoy Loscil, his music has that undefinable quality that, to me anyway, keeps it from being dull. Very difficult to achieve when making that deep ambient style.AnOwl wrote: Syscrusher should like some of these...
Loscil (aka Scott Morgan) also plays drums in the Vancouver based band Destroyer.

FFFFFF I just lost.
Re: Influences
My electronic influence (not a exhaustive live): Agoria, Laurent Garnier, Amon Tobin, Alex Smoke, Aphex Twin, Square Pusher, Dusty Kid, John Merrick, Birdy Nam Nam, Air, Death In Vegas...
Agoria is a french DJ, you may not know him, check out this tune:
I also like many other style of music but mainly jazz, it is an influence even when I'm doing ds-10 music. And I think that the fact of playing other instrument influences a lot also.

Re: Influences
Daft Punk and Aqua are pretty heavy influences for me
but artists like Skream, Chrispy and Bar9 are huge as well
and experimental noise music, (AIDS Wolf, John Lennon, etc.)

Zini, that Project Elf track is fantastic! I love the granular percussion.

Re: Influences
A smal cross-section of music that inspires me...
Sigur Ros are quite good at setting a mood, creating walls of noise followed by beautiful melodic sections.
Another band that is good at creating soundscapes.
Broken/The downward spiral/Fragile... Don't know what to say other than it is insanely good...
Yeah... and then there is Laibach, Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, And One, Tool, etc...

I'm a Folk fiddle player - but I had a yahama Keyboard when I was a teenager and it had a simple synthesizer on board ( but no Sequencer)
I'm going to post some tracks as soon as I figure out how to best get them from my dsi into MP3
