KORG Monotribe (analog ribbon station)

Postby DS-10 Dominator » Mon Apr 04, 2011 10:25 pm

So the teaser on april 1st in iMS-20 was not a joke...

via http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2011/ ... rst-photos
Official photos of the Korg Monotribe Analogue Ribbon Station – a new analog synth that’s expected to be announced at Musikmesse 2011 – are now available.

Features include:

Synth with single VCA, VCF, VCA
LFO
Envelope Generator
Selectable wave options
Noise
Bass Drum
Snare Drum
High Hat
Built-in Sequencer
Toggle synthesizer matrix
This thing looks like it may be rather wicked – with lots of hands-on tweakability.

We’re looking forward to learning more and hearing what it sounds like. Let us know what you think!

At first I thought that was too awesome to be real, that it had to be an April Fool's thing, but it seems legit.

Only problem is that I can't imagine it being anywhere near as cheap as the Monotron.

Cool but it would be nice if it had cv/gate or midi in otherwise a modded monotron may have more flexability in a system. Looks cool though!

Yeah I'm getting one (two?) of these. The info says that there is an autotune feature for the ribbon. Nice.

Those videos make it look even more awesome.

According to one of the youtube comments it's gonna cost around £170 in the UK which I guess is a fair price; about the price of 3.5 monotrons and it looks about 3.5x better.

Can you get a used iPad for under 200 euros? It looks like this is going to be in that price range.

Well you can get an iPad 1 for 250 euros/dollars no doubt, as it was 500 new.

As far as the pricing for this, we'll see. I might be interested if it's around/under 200.

This does look brilliant and this new video shows it off really well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lp6Dt7HvO3A

I think I'll definitely be getting one of these, the UK price does seem to be around £169.99 although this hasn't officially been confirmed but most online retailers are showing this as the pre-order price. I think this along with the Wavedrum Mini would be a great combination.

I already own a Monotron and a DS Lite with DS-10 (couldn't get the DS-10+ here in the UK) so the Monotribe does seem to be just a hardware version of these two things put together (albeit without the delay, chorus and flanger effects which would've been the icing on the cake for me). But having said that it is a handy, portable solution for quick beatmaking and songwriting on the go (I regularly use my DS-10 on the bus with lots of strange looks from fellow passengers).

BTW: is this the first time KORG spelled ANALOGUE (UK spelling) in stead of ANALOG (US spelling)?

Feedback, one of Holland's biggest instrument distributors, offers the Monotribe for € 200,-.

It's spelled "analogue" on the monotron as well. "Analogue" is officially the Canadian spelling but it's often spelled the American way here too.

Not a bad price, www.Thomann.de asks the same.

Ah right, I only read Analog was US and Analogue UK. MS-10, MS-20 (and iMS-20) are Analog. Monotron and Monotribe are Analogue... odd right?

I think the Monotribe has so much potential, once it's in the hands of musicians and modders it will easily far outshine all those Kaoss Pads, Kaossilators, the Monotron and the other -tribes. I personally can't wait for this to come out.
