DS10FORUM.COM 2.0 > What should/could use a change?

Useful for everyone, beginner, pro, DS-10, M01... "In a grand sense, music theory distills and analyzes the fundamental parameters or elements of music—rhythm, harmony (harmonic function), melody, structure, form, texture, etc"

DS10FORUM.COM 2.0 > What should/could use a change?

Postby DS-10 Dominator » Thu Aug 18, 2011 7:08 pm

If DS10forum.com gets an update, how do you think it should be?

- The Design (New design, logo, smileys, or ...?)
- The URL (Should it be something like KORGDSFORUM.COM or DS10FORUM.COM + M01FORUM.COM or ....)
- New functionalities?
- New subforums or a different structure?
- Ability to embed other things?
- A music system / databass with perhaps rankings or something like that?
- Go crazy... request what you want!

- I think a great change would be a more song-centric approach to the site layout. it should be super easy to locate, access and play songs. if you're going to stick with the forum format, then all song releases should be at the very top of the forum, otherwise the casual visitor will never find them. If possible, have the newest music available to play right on the first page that people visit (akin to 8bc or chipmusic.org)

- URL: personally, i like the more general KORGDSFORUM.COM and it'll result in less headache in the case that other similar products com out in the future. DS10FORUM.COM and M01FORUM.COM can both redirect to KORGDSFORUM.COM.

- making it easier for international artists to post music would be a great feature. not exactly sure how we would do this yet though.

BTW, I have considerable experience in Flash development and i can develop a custom audio player if there's enough need for it.

One other thing i was thinking of was an interactive patch diagram that mimics the DS-10 patch settings, where people and save/share them.

Actually, this topic has inspired me to get a couple of prototypes going. will keep you posted =)

Bryface is onto something. A more custom site would be nice, with easily accessible track lists for a certain member and so on.

Actually.. now that I think about it, it feels kind of like a tool-specific SoundCloud.

All neat suggestions! Except I would prefer HTML (5) over flash, so the player would run on iOS as well.

HTML5 is fine by me, as long as you try to maintain maximum compatibility - I'm guessing there are some popular browsers that are not quite up-to-speed.

good point. HTML5 with flash fallback would probably be the best way to go about it.

i think it's reasonable to expect HTML5 as a minimum requirement though instead of HTML4. better support on mobile, and easier to maintain the code surrounding <audio> tag playback (instead of needing a flash guy to do all maintenance/custom improvements.

i'll see if i can get a proof of concept going after this weekend.

You don't have to use a custom uploading / playing solution... you could just make a way for people to showcase their songs from Soundcloud or Youtube... both support HTML5 players.

Yeah I definitely think it should be Soundcloud based, as we can not offer space or bandwidth on ds10forum.com

I like the idea of using the soundcloud player. It's great and easy to use on tumblr.

That would be an awesome feature that would attract a lot of people!

I want a new part of the forum dedicated entirely to coming up with ideas for another Korg music-making cartridge, and for compiling them in a list that could be sent to "XSEED Games". We need to show those guys what we want, because we're probably their most important demographic!

A custom (or embedded) music player so we can listen to ds-10 music with ease. Like in 8bc maybe. :D

Bryface's ideas seem ok to me (except for that "mimic the DS-10 diagram" thing...I actually haven´t understood it).

Also I would like to see a general music discussion forum, and keep chit-chat for real off-topic.

Just an idea to prevent spammer to enter the forum: just put a "basic" question about the korg ds-10 when registering, it should help avoiding some stupid posts.

I Did! STILL they get through, it's a mystery to me, maybe they're using an exploit/hack or something.

To be honest, I've tried to update phpBB here a couple of times, but I always run into errors GRRRRR

I would like a section for Ds10 with other equipment. I feel like I shouldn't post music that isn't pure ds. so far i've posted stuff with samples, but when I do shows I use Kp3 and hercules Rmx(useful as a sample bank). I will be adding monotribe and wavedrum mini as well. A section for non-pure ds, but ds included would be great.

You don't need to upgrade to make tracks more accessible. Just put a sticky in the top of the Completed Tracks forum and have your moderators check back once a week and add to a big list in the sticky

Maybe an iOS desktop icon to start off. Tapatalk access. Interviews with artists about their setups for home recording and live sets.
