Where Should Musicians Live?

Postby Cfgk24 » Sun Dec 11, 2011 11:18 am

If I were to move to a city or place, where like minded musicians where in abundance and the performance opportunities were - - Where would be the best place?

Maybe New York, or London, maybe New Orleans?

How do you get round the High cost of living in these places to live a Bohemian lifestyle of Music Music Music and to improve your art and skills?

Any thoughts or suggestions anyone?

Berlin is supposedly the lowest cost / most active music scene place....?

A wide spectrum of music culture is represented in Amsterdam, although the living (central) can be pretty expensive. Around 500Euro/month for a few rooms.

Lol, can't speak German!

Amsterdam seems a good place . . . . . is it 500 Euro per person or for a 2 bed apartment?

I live in Cambridge UK - try the rents there!!! eek! Very High!!!!

Yes, germany certainly has previous in producing great musicians. But then so does britain.
I think it's very interesting how landscape, weather, culture and history have an effect on a countries creative output.

Dont go to france unless you like the accordion though.

"Dont go to france unless you like the accordion though." ouch! ok we have some bad music in France as well as in all countries ... but there is a nice jazz scene in Paris and don't you know the french house (laurent garnier to name just one) ? Unfortunately there is just one place in France, it's Paris and it's expensive. If you like to cross the ocean, come to Montreal, there's a lot of music, any genre.
